The Road to Recovery – Step 5

“God blesses those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they will be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6 (NLT)

Step 5—Voluntarily submit to every change God wants to make in my life, and humbly ask Him to remove any character defects. After we’ve recognized what’s wrong, we must not only remove the bad but put the good in where the bad was. If we’re willing to not only confess sin, but trust God to teach us to walk in His new ways, He will strengthen our journey of training in righteousness. This is difficult for many of us to do, though; often we just want to be forgiven, to be right with God, and then to be left alone to carry on as we will. But if we’re willing to trust God enough to approach Him and confess our faults to Him, why wouldn’t we trust Him to change us for the better? This is where the power of community (from Step 4) comes in, as our brothers and sisters in Christ encourage us to obedience.
