On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39 (ESV)
Living water comes from God, but it starts with belief in Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit guides us to understand what truly living in Christ looks like. It’s a surrendered life, a life submitted to the lordship of Christ. The Spirit only comes to us when we are surrendered, when we get out of the way of God controlling our life.
So consider this: what’s the hunger and thirst like in your life? Today, let the Holy Spirit develop in you a prayer life built on hungering for more of God.
