The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding loves one’s own soul. Proverbs 19:8 (NIV)
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.” Matthew 16:24-27 (NIV)
Our soul involves our feelings, personality, conscience, intuition—the thumbprint of God on our lives. When our heart is aligned with God’s will, our soul agrees with God that this is good. When we see things that should not be, our soul is the part of us that reacts negatively. Since we are still sinners, the decisions we make with our heart sometimes war against our soul, and our soul can either steer us back on the right track or be disregarded to our soul’s harm. This week let’s pray that God would grow our souls and bring them even more life.
