Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23 (NIV)
The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. Genesis 6:5 (NIV)
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NIV)
What do the Scriptures teach us about who we are in Christ? God made us, and we are His creation. As we listen to Him, we will become fully alive as a human being.
The greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength. But it starts with our heart, with our will, with what we want, our dreams, our desires. As we listen to what God wants for us (and He only wants the best for us), we become fully alive in Christ. When our attention drifts and we are enticed by worldly thoughts, we descend into much less than God’s best. So let’s begin this series by praying each day for God to cause a purification of our heart.
